Goal Setting Webinar – Creating Tommorow's Reality Today

We began the new year by hosting an inspiring webinar on Goal Setting and Creative Visualization with motivational speaker Steve Beck.
Many of us begin to think about new year resolutions and goals as the year comes to an end. But with all our good intentions, we may lose sight of our goals – whether personal or professional – if we don’t have the tools and actions needed to achieve them.

The Wheel of Life

Steve encourages us to first complete what he calls our “Wheel of Life” chart, similar to the pie chart pictured below, to assess how we feel about important aspects of our life.

  • Money
  • Career
  • Family/Friends
  • Fun/Recreation
  • Personal Growth/Spiritual Development
  • Physical Environment (Home, Car, Office)
  • Romantic Relationship
  • Fitness and Health

Put a dot close to the periphery of the pie if you feel you are close to fulfilling your goal for that category, and closer to the center of the pie, if you feel you are farther from it. Then connect all the dots. This is an excellent visual tool to gain an overview of life, and no doubt an eye-opener for anyone who completes it!
As Steve so wisely points out, without a clear idea of where we are at it in life and where we are headed,  it will be a challenge to create goals for ourselves. So completing the Wheel of Life is very helpful for assessing our life  and creating our goals. To quote a witty Chinese proverb:

“If we do not change our direction, we are likely to end up where we are headed”

S.M.A.R.T Goals

We need goals, but it’s important to make sure our goals are  S.M.A.R.T goals. What are smart goals?
Specific  The goal is not too dreamy or lofty, but something specific
Measurable  The goal is measurable, i.e. you can assess when you are closer to achieving it
Attainable  The goal is attainable
Realistic  The goal is realistic, given your current situation and circumstances
Time Bound  The goal can be accomplished within a certain timeframe

The First Step in Manifesting Your Goals: Writing and Visualizing

Once your goal is clear and fits the S.M.A.R.T criteria, you can use the “How To” steps provided by Steve to accomplish your goal.
Write your goal down and the benefits of having this goal completed
Write down any obstacles you anticipate, and how to overcome them
Write down what you need to do to accomplish your goal.
Visualize your goal completed!
